Kitesurfing

DARK DOG Champion Gabi Steindl

Austrian Gabriele Steindl (known as Kite Gabi) started her lifelong passion with the wind and waves in 2002. She tried for the first time kitesurfing in Bali, where she took a short course, and then in Morocco a full time serious training with only one goal in mind – success!

Dedicating her life to kitesurfing, as well as challenging herself to succeed had become her obsession. She was thus going from strength to strength. After only one year in the circuit, she entered the World Cup scene. In 2003 (Brazil), she achieved a 7th place overall in the world women’s ranking of the PKRA (Professional Kiteboard Riders Association) Tour.

Participating in several competitions, the world cup season 2006 was a milestone for Gabi: within 3 weeks she participated in 3 events in Brazil, achieving 3 great triumphs: third place at the PKRA World Cup Final, second place at the PKRA Wave Event and a fantastic first place at the PKRA Kitesurf Team Worldcup! Moreover, Austrian Kite Gabi triumphed at the PKRA Windsurf and Kite Boarding Worldcup in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, climbing the podium of the third place for the hang time discipline, whose aim is to remain in the air as long as possible.

Ever since those days, Gabi became a celebrity, working in different international projects. These included her presence in events such as the Blue Danube in Vienna (Austria), the biggest outdoor music festival in Europe, and writing articles for several sports and lifestyle magazines.
